Fake jersey, Suii and GOAT debate — Chelsea's Nico Jackson tells his Cristiano Ronaldo story

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson explains why he did Ronaldo's iconic 'Sui' celebration after scoring a hat-trick in the victory over Tottenham.

Chelsea star Nico Jackson told the story behind his iconic celebration in Chelsea’s 4-1 romping of Tottenham Hotspur in a Premier League clash.

The Senegal international joined the Blues from Villarreal in the summer but has found it difficult to settle down, as he failed to carry on the incredible scoring run he was on at the end of last season for the Yellow Submarines that earned him a move to West London.

Three weeks ago, however, in a London Derby clash against Ange Postecoglou’s side, the goals skipped the trickling-in phase and came out in a gush, as he got a hat-trick, doubling his season tally up until that point.

Jackson celebrated the third of his treble on the night with Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic ‘Suiii’ celebration, and in a recent conversation with the Premier League, he gave the reason behind his choice.

What Jackson said

The Djibonker-born striker revealed that he had always idolised the Real Madrid legend and the imitation did not start recently, as growing up, he used to mock up the Portuguese’s style and mannerisms.

He further let slip that he used to own a fake Cristiano Ronaldo shirt with the symbolic No. 7 handwritten on the back with a pen, as the ‘original’ versions were expensive.

"I loved Cristiano Ronaldo growing up,” Jackson said, glowingly.

"I would pretend to be him, but it was difficult to watch his games because you needed to pay. We would go to my friend’s house, everybody in a large group, to watch Real Madrid."

"I had Ronaldo’s name on a shirt that I always wore. Not an actual shirt because they are expensive. But I had a shirt that I put 7, Ronaldo on with a pen. I did it myself when I was a kid.”

Meanwhile, Super Falcon's shot-stopper Chiamaka Nnadozie was on the wrong end of a 4-1 thrashing as Chelsea beat her Paris FC side in the UEFA Women’s Champions League game.
