Man City maintain 100% start but fail to convince against Awoniyi's Coventry

The win helped Enzo Maresca's men maintain their 100% start to the season after defeating Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.

City dominated from the first whistle, controlling 81 percent of possession and repeatedly pinning Coventry deep into their own half.

The breakthrough eventually came in the 26th minute when Erling Haaland powered home a header from Antoine Semenyo's pinpoint cross.

Yet for all their dominance, City could not add a second. Rayan Cherki struck the post with a low drive, Haaland saw a first-time effort flash wide, and Carl Rushworth produced a series of fine saves to keep Coventry in the game.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was also called into action before the break, producing a superb save to preserve City's slender advantage.

City move to nine points and remain top of the Premier League. The results are coming, but Maresca will want more clinical finishing from his attackers in the coming weeks.
