No be only me be the Nigerian for the team - Victor Boniface urges Nigerians to show love to 'brother' Tella
Nigeria Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has urged Nigerian fans to share the adulation after Bayer Leverkusen's historic Invincibles season, making a passionate plea for recognition of his compatriot Nathan Tella.
The former Union Saint-Gilloise man has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from home since netting a pivotal goal in Leverkusen's final day triumph to complete an unbeaten Bundesliga campaign on Saturday.
Boniface asks for more Tella love
Despite the show of support from Nigerians, Boniface was quick to deflect the individual plaudits, however, taking to social media to ensure the spotlight also shone on fellow Nigerian Tella.
"No be only me be the Nigerian for the team. Show love to my brother @NathanTella_11," Boniface posted to his ardent followers on X, formerly Twitter.
The heartfelt message didn't go unnoticed, with Tella responding: "Aburo mi" in acknowledgment of his teammate's classy gesture.
Despite playing second fiddle to Boniface's 14 league goals, Tella made 24 appearances as Leverkusen swept aside all comers to be crowned German football's first Invincibles.
The dynamic duo have now written their names into Nigerian and German footballing history books with their role in one of the greatest team achievements in Bundesliga history.
And Boniface clearly believes both he and his "brother" Tella deserve to bask in the glow of their shared success after forming an unbreakable bond on and off the pitch this season.
