The retired Real Madrid midfielder made the bold prediction while discussing the leading contenders for the 2026 prize, arguing that Kvaratskhelia's performances deserve greater recognition despite the Georgian not being widely considered the favourite.

Kroos believes the PSG winger has done enough to put himself ahead of several established superstars, including Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and Rodri.

Kroos also explained why he believes some of the other leading candidates should not necessarily be ahead of Kvaratskhelia.

According to the former Real Madrid star, several players who impressed at international level did not enjoy equally outstanding club campaigns.

He said, “The best World Cup players, Messi, Jude, Mbappe and Rodri, had average club seasons.”
