Mykhailo Mudryk Doping Suspension

Mykhailo Mudryk faces a potential four-year ban after a positive 'A' sample in a drugs test revealed the presence of meldonium, a performance-enhancing substance added to the World Anti-Doping Agency's prohibited list on January 1, 2016.

The Football Association provisionally suspended Mudryk on December 17, 2024, pending the results of his 'B' sample.

During this suspension, he is barred from playing and training with Chelsea and is following a personal fitness programme.

Mudryk has enlisted Morgan Sports Law, the same firm that represented Paul Pogba in his successful appeal to reduce a four-year doping ban to 18 months, to handle his case.

Mudryk maintains his innocence, stating he has never knowingly used banned substances and that he tested negatively in August before the positive test.

He suggests that any substance leading to the failed test was likely administered overseas, although the test was conducted in the UK.

Mudryk's last appearance for Chelsea was at the end of November in a Europa Conference League match against Heidenheim. He was subsequently absent due to illness, missing match-day squads.

His move to Chelsea in January 2023 has not yet seen him reach his full potential, and he has faced challenges in securing a regular starting position.

Chelsea has confirmed they are aware of the situation and are working with Mudryk to determine the cause of the adverse finding.

The outcome of the 'B' sample and the subsequent investigation will determine the length of any potential ban.

On June 18, 2025, the FA charged Mudryk for violation of its anti-doping rules. Thus, the Ukrainian could miss up to four years through suspension.

“We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with anti-doping rule violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of regulations 3 and 4 of The FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations,” the FA statement read.

"As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.”
