Mourinho reveals what Real Madrid must do against Espanyol
Jose Mourinho has made his expectations crystal clear ahead of Real Madrid's La Liga clash with Espanyol, urging his club to settle for nothing less than all three points.
The Portuguese coach believes Real Madrid possess the quality and mentality required to maintain their impressive start to the campaign.
Speaking in an interview with TribalFootball, Mourinho stressed that consistency is the hallmark of championship-winning teams and warned that dropping points against Espanyol should not be an option.
“Three points or nothing” - Mourinho
Mourinho did not mince words when discussing Real Madrid's objective for Sunday's encounter.
“Three points or nothing against Espanyol,” Mourinho declared.
He added, “They must continue to improve and look to be consistent in every game they play. Espanyol will be a tough game for them because they will want to bounce back from their previous defeat.”
Mourinho also reflected on one of the biggest challenges of managing the Spanish giants, every opponent raises its level against Real Madrid.
According to Mourinho, Real Madrid must match their opponents' intensity from the opening whistle or risk making life unnecessarily difficult for themselves.
Despite the enormous expectations that come with representing Real Madrid, Mourinho insisted that the feeling should be embraced rather than feared.
He added, “I wouldn't call it pressure; I'd call it adrenaline. It's a positive thing.”
The Portuguese believes confidence comes from preparation, praising the mentality and ambition that successful Real Madrid squads must possess.
“I have a lot of confidence in the work we've done and in the players' ambition, their mindset, and the passion they show me," he added.
