I'm not thinking about Nigeria — Barcelona destroyer Samu Omorodion not interested in Super Eagles call-up

Samu Omorodion, who is eligible to play for the Super Eagles as he is Nigerian by descent, has revealed that he has no plans of playing for the West African nation.

Omorodion, 19, was born in Spain to Nigerian parents, making him eligible to represent the Super Eagles and the Furia Roja. 

The striker earned a move to Atletico Madrid last season after his impressive performances for Granada, but he is currently on loan at Alaves, where he has scored four goals in five starts. This includes an incredible performance against Barcelona last week, in which Xavi had to make a tactical switch to keep him at bay.

Omorodion has already made an appearance for Spain’s U-19 and is currently on international duty with La Roja’s U-21 team.

In an interview with Spanish publication Dario AS, the young striker was asked if he would honour NFF’s call and ditch Spain should the three-time AFCON winners come calling, and Omorodion totally dismissed the idea.

The Alaves teenage striker was born, raised and received his football education in Spain; hence, he explains that he owes everything to the European nation and only dreams of making his debut for La Roja’s first team.

“Spain has given me the opportunity and I am very grateful for it. I don’t think about Nigeria. My goal is to debut with the senior side and have my career in Spain.”

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the final nominee shortlist for the Young Player of the Year award, and Nigeria’s Gift Orban fell through the cracks in the final screening process.
