Athletic Club entirely dominated the second half, securing the 3-0 victory through goals from Nico Williams, Robert Navarro, and Oihan Sancet.

Lookman's overall performance frustrated the travelling support, who quickly took to social media to condemn his lack of offensive output.

Lookman has generally struggled to shine this season, continuing a difficult start to the 2026/27 LALIGA campaign as Atlético prepare for their upcoming UEFA Champions League fixture.

Lookman: Tactical mitigation

To be fair to the Nigeria international, some of his early-season struggles stemmed from tactical deployments by the coaching staff.

Diego Simeone openly apologised to Lookman after playing him out of position as a centre-forward during the opening two league fixtures against Málaga and Villarreal.

The shift was necessitated by the absences of Julián Álvarez and Alexander Sørloth, limiting Lookman's effectiveness in his preferred left-wing role.

Despite these initial struggles, Lookman previously demonstrated his value by scoring during Atlético's 3-1 victory over Sevilla on August 29.
