Bayer Leverkusen are missing Victor Boniface who already helped them beat Qarabag twice in the UEL.

Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen have stoked memories of Victor Boniface's heroics against Qarabag by sharing a message of his dramatic late winner in their previous Europa League meeting.

Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Leverkusen take on the Azerbaijani side in the first leg of their round of 16 tie on Thursday, having prevailed 6-2 on aggregate in the group stages.

Ahead of the latest clash, the German club's Twitter account posted: "This feeling again in Baku.... #QARB04 #Bayer04 #aCROSSeurope"

The accompanying image showed Boniface celebrating with his teammate, Jeremie Frimpong, the last-gasp penalty to seal a 0-1 victory in Baku back in October.

The Nigerian striker netted twice over the two group fixtures against Qarabag to continue his hot streak in Europe this season.

Boniface has four goals and one assist in just five Europa League appearances for Xabi Alonso's side.

His late heroics in Azerbaijan secured Leverkusen's progress as group winners with the German club now eyeing a place in the quarter-finals.

However, they will have to overcome Qarabag without the services of the injured Boniface this time around.

The 23-year-old has been sidelined since suffering a knee injury that also ruled him out of Nigeria's run to the Africa Cup of Nations final in January.

The absence of the former Union Saint-Gilloise star is a huge blow, but Leverkusen's tweet serves as a reminder of his big-game ability as they prepare to face Qarabag again.
