Why Liverpool kept Nunez

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds were tempted to accept the offer but ultimately decided against selling Nunez as they did not have a replacement lined up.

They also felt that the Uruguay star could still play an important role in the team's quest for trophies this season.

Nunez has struggled to live up to expectations since joining Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 for a club-record fee of £85m, scorig only scored four goals in the Premier League this season and has often been used as a substitute.

Despite his struggles, manager Arne Slot has insisted that Nunez remains an important part of his plans.

He has praised the striker's work rate and his ability to make an impact off the bench.

What next for Nunez?

Nunez's future at Liverpool remains uncertain, as the forward could still leave the club in the summer if a suitable offer is received.
