Barcelona announced that they have renewed Lamine Yamal's contract until 2031.

Barcelona have confirmed that they have extended the contract of teenage sensation Lamine Yamal until June 2031.

The 17-year-old has already established himself as one of the best players in the world, and with talks of a possible Ballon d'Or gaining ground, the Blaugrana moved quickly to intertwine his future with theirs.

Lamine Yamal: 2031

Yamal made his debut for Barcelona in April 2023 as a 15-year-old. In the two years since then, he has had a meteoric rise, winning a domestic treble for Barcelona off the back of a triumphant European Championships with Spain.

He has also won the Golden Boy, Kopa Trophy and the Laureus Breakthrough of the Year award in that period and is one of the top contenders for the Ballon d'Or.

He was initially scheduled to put pen to paper when he turned 18 next month, but there are reports that Barcelona believed they could not risk giving rival clubs time to tempt him with a significant financial package.

Hence, they invited Yamal's agent, Jorge Mendes, who confirmed days ago that an agreement had been reached. Today, the Blaugrana announced via their official channels.

What will come with the extension?

Yamal will receive a significant pay bump, commensurate with his current status as the best player at the club. There have been reports that he would become the highest-paid player in the team. While sporting director Deco denied the claims, Mendes fueled it.

Also, Yamal will inherit the number 10 jersey, a move the Blaugrana see as a massive marketing play. Ansu Fati is the current occupant of the squad number, but he is expected to join Monaco this summer.

Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho are two of the biggest Barcelona stars to have donned that number, and the latter has given Yamal his blessing to carry on the torch at the club.
