'I’ve never seen anything like it' — Real Madrid legend Zidane hails Lamine Yamal
Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane is the latest to shower praise on Barcelona's Lamine Yamal, tagging his second-half performance against Inter Milan as the best he had ever seen.
What Zidane said
The former Marseille star has been out of football management since he ended his second stint at Real Madrid in 2021. He has since rejected multiple offers to return to coaching; however, he still follows the sport.
In a conversation with Foot Mercato, he revealed that he watched Barcelona's Champions League exit to Inter and was awestruck by the performance of Yamal.
“His second half against Inter Milan… I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. To see someone in such control on the pitch is pretty fantastic. We all enjoy watching him play.”
Lamine Yamal vs Inter
While Inter won the game and, consequently, a ticket to the final, Barcelona won hearts thanks to their high-risk offensive style and the performance of their 17-year-old teen sensation, Yamal.
The Spain international was unstoppable in the fixture. After the first leg, a 3-3 draw, Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni called him the best player he ever faced, and his coach, Simone Inzaghi, promised to put three men on the teenager in the second leg.
The tactical “cage” did little to stop Yamal, and he was more devastating in the second-leg, earning praise from the likes of Rio Ferdinand, and now, Zinedine Zidane.
Despite Yamal's incredible showing, however, Inter dug deep and won the tie. They will play the final in Lisbon against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.
