Hana Goda won the ITTF Africa Cup when she was 14 in Lagos and became the youngest player to win the championship.

Ahead of the commencement of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Africa Cup in Kenya, 15-year-old, Hana Goda is set to defend her title.

Pulse Sports reports that the Africa Cup will serve off on May 4–6 at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Kenya.

The most decorated ping pong championship in Africa will witness the participating countries present two players each in men's and women's events, while Egypt, as the defending champions in men's and women's events, will nominate two players alongside the two champions.

The host country, Kenya, will present four players each in the men's and women's events, while Brian Mutua will lead the East African team against the visitors.

Hana Goda is in mood for a title defense in Kenya

As the youngest winner of the ITTF Africa Cup, 15-year-old Hana Goda will be heading to Nairobi, Kenya, to defend her women’s singles title at the 2023 tournament.

Goda, who won her first continental title at the age of 14, defeated seven-time African champion Dina Meshref in the semifinals and Nigeria's Fatimo Bello 4-0 in the final to win the 2022 edition of the competition in Lagos, Nigeria.

The Cairo-born athlete expressed her readiness for the tournament as she intensifies her training ahead of her departure on Tuesday, May 2.

She said, “I’m very ready and excited for the tournament. It’s going to be a tough battle as there are really good players but I’m looking forward to playing in the tournament and hopefully, I can defend the title.

“I’m very confident in myself as I’ve been working so hard in the past couple of months and hopefully I’ll be able to win it. My target is to of course take first place not only that but also to play my best in every single set and match.

Excited about her first visit to Kenya, the Egyptian national champion said, “Yes It’s my first time in Kenya and I don’t know much about the atmosphere and stuff, but I’m excited nonetheless.”

The defending champions, Omar Assar and Hana Goda will be leading Team Egypt to the championship and will be looking forward to defending their titles.

Egypt will be assembling a strong six-man team for the men's and women's events as Dina Meshref and Yousra Helmy as well as Ahmed Saleh and Youssef Abdul-Aziz complete the North African side.
