Yamal, Mbappe now Uche: Madrid club shows Super Eagles star how much they value him
Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche has been handed a prominent shirt number by Getafe after his incredible debut season for the LALIGA outfit.
Uche’s incredible debut
Chrisantus’s debut season will go down as one of the most impactful in modern LALIGA history, as he rose from obscurity to become one of the top performers in the Spanish top flight.
Originally a midfielder, the Nigerian played a variety of positions for the Azules. Last season for Getafe, he played in centre midfield, attacking midfield, and even as a striker.
He had the most goal contributions for Bordalas's side last season (10), with four goals and six assists. He also secured his Super Eagles debut and finished 9th in Pulse Sports 30.
Uche gets squad upgrade
The number 10 jersey is a revered kit number in football, typically reserved for the special footballers in a squad.
Barcelona and Real Madrid recently handed their two most important players, Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe, the number 10 shirt, signifying their role in the squad; Uche has gotten a similar nod from Getafe.

The Madrid-based club published their squad lists for next season, and Uche, who donned the number 6 jersey last season, was assigned to the coveted #10 kit.
This move comes amid uncertainty surrounding his future, as the club’s leadership recently reprimanded him publicly following reports that he was pushing for a move away from the club.
