Why I joined Celtic after ending Sevilla contract — Super Eagles star Iheanacho
Kelechi Iheanacho has revealed that his desire to win trophies was the driving force behind his recent free transfer to Scottish giants Celtic.
Iheanacho's move to Celtic comes after a season follhugely underwhelming 12 months under contract at Spanish club Sevilla.
Despite signing a three-year contract, he failed to score a league goal in six months, which led to a loan move to Middlesbrough in the EFL Championship. He managed just one goal and two assists with the Boro before terminating his deal in Spain.
In a statement on the club’s official website, the ex-Manchester City forward, who will now re-unite with former manager Brendan Rodgers, spoke about his delight at the move.
“I’m excited to be a Celtic player and I’m feeling really good about it. Celtic is a massive club and I’ve been following them for a long time.
"I’m happy to be a part of that now and hopefully it’ll be a great season.”
Iheanacho also expressed confidence that he will add to his trophy collection in Scotland.
“I’m looking forward to fighting for silverware with Celtic. In England, I won trophies so hopefully I can be a winner with Celtic as well. I can’t wait to be a part of all of it and I’m very confident that I can bring a lot to the team.”
Iheanacho will be keen to return to his best to force his way back into Eric Chelle's Super Eagles squad.
