'He's talented and in his peak' - Former Liverpool boss Rodgers hails Kelechi Iheanacho after signing Super Eagles star
Former Liverpool and Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has broken his silence on the recent signing of Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho by Celtic, praising the Nigerian forward’s talent and athleticism ahead of their reunion at Parkhead.
The 28-year-old Nigerian striker recently secured a one-year contract with Celtic, with an option for a further year, following the mutual termination of his deal with Sevilla.
Iheanacho joined Sevilla in 2024 after leaving Leicester City, but fell out of favour under Sevilla manager Matías Almeyda and was left out of the squad for the opening La Liga matches of the season.
Prior to his Sevilla stint, Iheanacho was loaned to Middlesbrough where he contributed with goals and assists.
Iheanacho’s career began at Manchester City, where he won a League Cup medal before moving to Leicester City, making over 200 appearances and winning an FA Cup under the tutelage of Rodgers.

What Rodgers said
Now, reunited with his former boss at Celtic, Iheanacho is poised for a fresh start and a key role in the Scottish giants’ campaign.
Rodgers, who previously coached Iheanacho during their time together at Leicester City, has expressed strong confidence in the forward’s abilities and potential impact at Celtic.
“I know Kelechi so well and what he can bring to the team. He is such a talented player, with great ability, athleticism and work-rate,” Rodgers told the club’s website.
“I am sure he will love being at Celtic and I believe our fans will love what he brings. He has great experience and he is right in his peak years so he can be a great signing for us. I am sure he will make a big contribution to the team.”
Rodgers’s endorsement comes as a strong vote of confidence, signaling that Iheanacho is expected to be a vital asset at Celtic, combining experience, skill, and peak performance years to help the team achieve its ambitions.
