'We want to host it here' — Mayor begs for Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury fight

The mayor has urged promoters to bring the “Battle of Britain” to Wembley Stadium.

Speaking this week, Khan made clear his desire to host one of the most anticipated British boxing contests in a generation.

“A message to the promoters; we want to host it in London. Talk to us, we’re really keen to have it,” the mayor told BBC Sport.

Khan, a well-known boxing fan, highlighted London’s proven track record of delivering major heavyweight nights at Wembley, including previous bouts involving both Joshua and Fury that drew record crowds.

“I understand the temptation of going to Madison Square Garden, of the money on offer, but the fans are here,” he added.

“We’ve been loyal to Tyson and Anthony. We love them both, and we’d love to see them box here in London.”

The intervention comes amid ongoing uncertainty over the venue. Saudi organisers Sela and broadcaster Netflix are understood to favour New York’s Madison Square Garden for a potential November date, citing better time zones and global viewership.

Joshua’s camp, however, has insisted the fighter’s contract stipulates a UK location, with promoter Eddie Hearn continuing to push for the fight to stay on home soil.

Wembley’s usual 11pm curfew remains a potential obstacle for a late start that would suit American audiences, though Khan has previously signalled willingness to support efforts to make the event work in London.
