Victor Boniface: Super Eagles forward rejected by AC Milan returns to training

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has moved on from AC Milan’s rejection and is back in training with Bayer Leverkusen, fully focused on the new season ahead.

The 24-year-old forward returned to training after a highly anticipated transfer from Leverkusen to the Serie A giants fell apart at the final stage.

AC Milan officially called off their pursuit of Boniface following concerns that emerged during medical tests, halting the blockbuster deal and leaving the Nigerian striker visibly disappointed.

Earlier reports from Pulse Sports Nigeria revealed that Milan had decided to abandon their efforts to sign Boniface, shifting their attention instead to two other strikers in their summer transfer window plans to bolster their attacking options.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that despite a verbal agreement involving a €5 million loan fee and a €24 million purchase option, the transfer collapsed after comprehensive medical examinations carried out over the weekend in Milan.

Boniface had travelled to Italy to finalise the move, but returned to Germany after Milan withdrew from the deal.

Upon his return, the Nigerian striker, who responded firmly to critics mocking him over the failed transfer, rejoined Leverkusen’s training sessions alongside his teammates.

In a recent club post on Instagram captioned ‘Werkself on the pitch!’, Boniface was seen working with the ball, engaging in drills aimed at beating one of his teammates, signalling his readiness to move forward.

Boniface missed Leverkusen’s opening Bundesliga game of the season, a home defeat to Hoffenheim, but will now be hoping to be included for the upcoming trip to Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Following the match, he will be expected to join the Super Eagles squad as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Despite this setback, Boniface’s focus remains undeterred as he looks to make an impact both at club and international level in the months ahead.
