Transfer News: Wolves advance talks to sign Nigerian forward to help fight relegation
Wolves are currently battling relegation in the Premier League, and the despertaion at Molineux is evident as they search for goals.
Philip Otele, who is on loan at Swiss club FC Basel, has become a significant target for the midlands club.
Philip Otele to Wolves?
According to BBC Sport's Nizaar Kinsella, initial talks have begun to determine the framework of a potential deal. Wolves are said to be considering both a permanent transfer and a loan agreement that would include an option to buy.
Basel's valuation of Otele is reportedly around £7 million. However, given Wolves' financial situation and precarious position in the league table, they are hesitant to commit to an outright purchase.
A loan deal with a fee and a future purchase option is being explored as a more viable alternative, though any incoming transfer may hinge on the club offloading other players first.
Otele is believed to be eager for a move to the Premier League, and agreeing on personal terms is not expected to be a major hurdle. He has also attracted interest from other clubs, including Birmingham, Fulham, Celtic, and Lazio.
Otele has established himself as a potent attacking threat in European football, first with CFR Cluj and now with Basel. His reputation as a direct, powerful winger with a keen eye for goal has grown significantly during his time in Switzerland, where he has registered 17 goals and seven assists in 51 matches.
His impressive form earned him a place in Nigeria's provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations under head coach Eric Chelle, although he did not make the final selection for the tournament where the Super Eagles secured a bronze medal.
