Transfer News: He will leave for good — Rosenior, Chelsea finally make decision on big money flop
Chelsea have reportedly made a final decision on Raheem Sterling, with the club determined to sell the out-of-favor winger before the January window closes.
According to The Athletic, the Blues have no interest in another loan move for the 31-year-old. Instead, the plan is for Sterling, who has been training away from the senior squad in the so-called "bomb squad," to leave the club permanently.
Sterling has not played for Chelsea this season, having spent the previous campaign on loan at Arsenal.
Sterling to leave Chelsea this month
New Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior, who replaced Enzo Maresca earlier this month, confirmed that talks are currently taking place to resolve the winger's future.
While Rosenior has offered a "clean slate" to other exiled players like Axel Disasi, Sterling remains outside of the first-team picture.
“We’re in conversations with Raheem at the moment about different things going on in his career,” Rosenior told reporters.
“Hopefully that will be clearer in the next couple of days.”
The biggest challenge in any deal remains Sterling’s £325,000-a-week salary. Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay a portion of his wages to help a move happen, especially as they look to clear space on their payroll.
The likes of Fulham, West Ham, and even clubs in Germany have been credited with an interest as one of England's finest talents looks to ressurect a dying career.
