He is going nowhere - Chelsea Boss Liam Rosenior quashes Enzo Fernandez exit talk
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has played down speculation surrounding Enzo Fernandez’s future while offering public backing to striker Liam Delap ahead of the Blues’ Champions League group-stage encounter with Pafos.
With two matches remaining, Chelsea sit two points outside the automatic qualification places for the last-16.
The reigning Conference League and Club World Cup champions have recorded three wins, one draw, and two defeats so far in the group, leaving little margin for error in the final fixtures.
What Rosenior said
Speaking to the media ahead of the clash, Rosenior confirmed that a sickness bug is still affecting parts of his squad, with key midfielder Enzo Fernandez among those impacted.
“Enzo Fernandez was ill yesterday and missed training,” Rosenior revealed.
However, the Chelsea boss also delivered encouraging fitness updates, confirming the returns of several important players.
“Estevao has been back in. Jamie Gittens is back in. Malo Gusto is back involved, another outstanding player,” he said.
Rosenior was quick to shut down rumors linking Fernandez with a potential January exit, insisting the midfielder remains central to his plans.
“It means nothing to me. When you are a world-class player, there will always be speculation you cannot control,” he stated.
The Chelsea manager praised Fernandez’s recent performances, highlighting his commitment despite illness.
He said, “Enzo has been outstanding and he has surprised me in a good way, in terms of what he did on Saturday, covering the ground he did when he was ill.”
“He is a Chelsea player, he is very important to me, and hopefully we will have a winning relationship in the short-term and long-term,” Rosenior added.
