Wilfred Ndidi: Man United linked with Super Eagles star and ex-Chelsea player
Manchester United have been linked with the signing of Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi and AC Milan's Ruben Loftus-Cheek, as they are keen on bolstering their midfield options in the winter transfer window to improve Michael Carrick's chances.
Ndidi, 29, only recently joined Besiktas — last summer. However, he has been a long-term target for the Red Devils, and according to recent reports, the Manchester-based outfit might be ready to pull the trigger.
Loftus-Cheek, on the other hand, left Chelsea for the Rossoneri in the summer of 2023, and when he has not been injured, he has played at an admirable level.
Why Man United want Ndidi
The Red Devils splashed in the summer, backing the Ruben Amorim project. However, their spending was top-heavy, with analysts stating that they should have brought in midfielders.
They attempted to sign a midfielder; however, they were linked with Ndidi before the Super Eagles star joined Besiktas for a reported €9.5 million, but the deal failed to materialise.
According to Alex Crook, the Ndidi agenda is back on the table, as Red Devils are keen on bolstering the midfield options Michael Carrick has to work with. Additionally, they have been offered Loftus-Cheek.
Ruben’s contract expires in 2027, and he has a market value of €10 million, according to Transfermarkt. Meanwhile, Ndidi has a contract until 2028, with an option to extend till 2029. It remains to be seen whether the Eagles will be willing to part with the former Leicester City man, who they have already made their vice captain.
What Man United fans are saying
Fans of the club have not been impressed by the names they have been linked with, as they believe it suggests a lack of ambition. “Ndidi and Loftus-Cheek...say everything about this club. Fans with standard of Real Madrid. Owners with standards of Stoke,” one fan said.
“If Loftus-Cheek is the “secret midfielder” @ManUtd are considering loaning, what a let-down!🤦🏻♀️ We need Reuben Neves to rotate with/replace Casemiro from NOW! We do NOT need another mediocre midfielder who ticks zero boxes. He isn’t any better than Ugarte,” another added.
“They want a champions league football and they’re going for Ndidi and Loftus Cheek.” a third said.
