Having drawn the first leg 0-0 at Stamford Bridge, the tie was finely balanced.
The decisive moment came early a controversial fourth-minute goal from Luis García which Chelsea disputed, claiming the ball had not crossed the line.
Despite the early setback, Mourinho’s team applied significant pressure throughout the match, seeking the away goal that would level the aggregate score.
However, Liverpool's defence proved resilient, frustrating Chelsea's attacking efforts.
As the game wore on, the tension mounted, and the Blues threw more players forward in search of an equaliser, but the Reds' determined defending ensured they maintained their slender advantage.
The London side went close at the death through Eidur Gudjohnsen, only for the forward’s powered effort from inside the box to flash just wide of the far post.
One of the great Anfield nights. ✨
