In a closely contested match, a single goal from Riccardo Calafiori in the opening half proved to be the difference.

The breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Declan Rice's corner kick was not handled cleanly by United's goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir.

The ball fell to Calafiori, who headed it into the net from close range. It was a classic example of Arsenal's continued threat from set pieces, a hallmark of their recent successes.

Despite the early setback, United responded well and showed promise with new signings Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

The Red Devils created several opportunities throughout the match, putting the Gunners’ defence under pressure.

David Raya, in the Arsenal goal, was called upon to make some important saves to maintain his side's slender lead.

As the game wore on, United pushed for an equaliser, but the North London club’s backline, led by William Saliba, held firm. In the end, the Gunners secured all three points with a resilient defensive display.

Following the home defeat on the opening weekend, a supporter of the Red Devils asserted that Mikel Arteta’s men would not win the league due to their style and approach.

“Arsenal won't win the league,” the post from @Hitee on X read. “Arteta is focused on winning on the edges instead of simply outplaying his opponents. It means margins for error are tiny.”

Manchester City, expected contenders in the Premier League, had a far more impressive start on Saturday, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0.

Erling Haaland, the favourite for the Golden Boot, scored two goals, while Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki both scored on their top-flight debuts, securing a comfortable victory for Pep Guardiola’s team.

Liverpool survived a scare in their matchday one fixture against Bournemouth on Friday night, but the Reds ultimately secured a 4-2 triumph.

As for Chelsea, outsiders for the crown, Enzo Maresca’s men could only draw against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, playing out a goalless game in a drab affair.

What’s next for Arsenal?

The Gunners next face Leeds United at the Emirates on August 23 before a showdown with Liverpool at Anfield on August 31.
