Victor Osimhen headlined social media reactions as Napoli were confirmed Serie A champions for the first time since 1990.

After a late Salernitana equaliser prevented Napoli from winning the title on Sunday, Luciano Spalletti’s team came into Thursday’s fixture knowing that a point would be enough to end their long wait for the Scudetto.

Udinese opened the score in the 13th minute after a nervous start from the league leaders saw Sandi Lovrić fire home into the top corner to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Napoli instantly sought to respond as Victor Osimhen came close on two occasions, but the Super Eagles striker was unable to bury the chances provided to him.

Napoli were left trailing at half-time as Spalletti’s men sought to stage a comeback in the second period.

Second Half

It appeared Spalletti’s tunnel talk inspired his side to make history and Osimhen fired home from inside the box seven minutes after the restart to level matters for the hosts and send Napoli fans into cloud nine.

Silvestri guided Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s low shot into the path of the Super Eagles of Nigeria striker who lashed home after a composed finish to send away fans jubilant back in Naples.

Piotr Zieliński came close to grabbing the winner minutes later in the second half but was let down by the finish.

However, In the end, Napoli held on for a crucial 1-1 draw that confirmed their status as the winners of the 2022/23 Serie A season for the first time since 1990.

Spalletti’s success now means he joins Ottavio Bianchi and Alberto Bigon as the only three Napoli managers to have ever the Scudetto.

Following Napoli’s Scudetto triumph on Thursday night, fans have since taken to social media to hail Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen.

The 24-year-old made history on the night becoming the African player to score the most goals in a Serie A season, surpassing Samuel Eto’o (21) and also equalled the all-time goalscoring record by an African player in the history of the Serie A set by George Weah (46).

Osimhen currently leads the race in the Serie A Golden Boot standings having netted 22 times in 27 appearances in the league so far this season.
