Naija Super 8: Ex-Super Eagles winger Finidi George gives excuses for Enyimba's shock exit
Former Super Eagles winger and Enyimba coach Finidi George has expressed mixed feelings after watching his team crash out of the Naija Super 8.
Enyimba failed to win a single match after a 2-1 loss to Katsina United in their final game in Group A.
Katsina United ended Enyimba’s dream in the Naijs Super 8 following an outstanding performance at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Tuesday evening.
Finidi expresses mixed feelings
Enyimba needed at least three points against the Changi Boys in the final game to keep their hope alive.
However, the side managed by a former coach of the Aba Millionaires, Usman Abdullah, proved to be just too good for the NPFL champions following a deserved win.
Moments after the game, Finidi spoke to the media and noted that he was sad to see his team exit the tournament but it was also a happy moment as they needed to rest.
“We have been longing for this (rest),” Finidi said after the defeat against Katsina United.
“Inasmuch as we want to go further in the tournament, this is a blessing in disguise for us.”
“If we had qualified, that means an extra four, five days and it would have been more difficult for the players.”

Speaking further, the former Ajax star added that his side competed well against the Changi Boys and in the competition and wished the teams left well.
“I think we competed well,” he added. “We had a couple of chances that we didn’t take, unfortunately. Like I said, I would have loved us to go further but since it has happened this way, i would take it.”
Finidi and his Enyimba side recently went unbeaten en route to a historic ninth title in the NPFL at the Super 6.
The former Ajax and Super Eagles star was named as Enyimba's boss two years ago.
