Man City legend Riyad Mahrez says Algeria's clash against Nigeria could be his last AFCON match
The former Manchester City winger has been in fine form for the Algerian team at the ongoing 2025 AFCON competition.
The forward played a key role in the team's qualification for the quarter-finals, with four wins in a row.
Despite not scoring in the round of 16 win over DR Congo, he has scored three goals in the competition.
Mahrez playing his last competition for Algeria
Speaking during an exclusive interview with Pulse Sports, the Algerian captain gave a hint about retiring from the national team.
He said, “Every competition you start, for players, is a big motivation. Of course, I want to do well. I think it'll be my last African Cup of Nations.
“So, I don't want to project myself too much and too far. That's why I want to concentrate and focus on the game.
“I give everything because it's really important for us to do something for us, for our country, for our supporters and for our families.”
The 34-year-old led his country to winning the 2019 AFCON edition and will be hoping he can retire by helping them lift the trophy again.
However, they still have the Super Eagles of Nigeria to contend with on Saturday for a spot in the semi-finals.
In other news, Mahrez believes his team can exploit some spaces when they face the Super Eagles.
