Kylian Mbappe: Alonso provides update on Real Madrid star's health
Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has revealed when Kylian Mbappe could play for Los Blancos at the Club World Cup.
The Frenchman was hospitalised in the United States due to a severe gastrointestinal infection.
The illness prevented the 26-year-old from participating in Madrid’s opening match of the tournament, which ended in a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal on Wednesday, leading to early worries about his availability for the rest of the competition.
However, Alonso has revealed the forward’s status before the Madrid giants face Pachuca on Sunday.
What Alonso said about Mabappe
Providing an update on Mbappe, Alonso confirmed the player is feeling better, having been discharged from hospital a couple of days prior and is in recovery.
“He's better,” said the Los Blancos head coach. “He was released from hospital a couple of days ago and he's recovering.
“As the days go by, we're optimistic we can get him back in time for the game against Salzburg."
After playing out a draw in their tournament opener, the Spanish giants need maximum points on Sunday to avoid going into their final group game looking nervously over their shoulders.
