I've told him — Van Dijk reveals what he told Salah amid saga
Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk has urged Mohamed Salah to stay at the club, after the Egypt international suggested that the match against Brighton could be his last as a Red.
What Van Dijk said
Speaking after the game against Brighton, in which Salah came off the bench to register an assist, Van Dijk expressed his desire to have the 33-year-old at the club beyond the January transfer window.
“We all hope that Salah is coming back and being important for us for the rest of the season,” he said, per Fabrizio. "But on the other side of it, we all know football, and we have no idea what's going to happen.
“I hope he stays because he's one of my leaders, very important for us. I've told Mo Salah I want him to stay. The rest I'm not going to tell you. I would love to have him around because he is one of the leaders, but the matter of fact is that he is going to AFCON.”
What happened
The former Roma forward made many Liverpool fans uneasy after he cast doubt over his future at the club in his recent rant.
He had been kept on the bench for three consecutive matches, and in the mix zone of the third game (against Leeds), he accused the club of having thrown him under the bus and of breaking promises made to him before suggesting that he could leave the club in January.
