Chelsea set new world record on transfer deadline day

As soon as the summer window slammed shut on deadline day, the Blues had generated an extraordinary £519 million in player sales and loan fees, posting an overall net profit of £120 million despite their own heavy recruitment

The historic figure was sealed on deadline day with the long-anticipated departure of midfielder Enzo Fernández to Manchester City in a joint British-record transaction worth up to £125 million.

According to the Telegraph, that transfer made Chelsea the first club in football history to turn a direct profit on a player originally acquired for over £100 million

Major outgoings alongside Fernández included high-profile departures such as Nicolas Jackson to Aston Villa for £65 million, Marc Cucurella for £51.8 million, Andrey Santos to Manchester United for £50 million, and Liam Delap to Nottingham Forest for £50 million.

Further sales included Trevoh Chalobah to Como (£30m), Tyrique George to Everton (£24m), and Marc Guiu (£15m), alongside deadweight cleanouts like Mykhailo Mudryk's loan move to Tottenham.

Delap, Jackson and Guiu, three strikers, scored one Premier League goal between them last season, yet Chelsea were able to bring in around £125m from their sales this summer, highlighting their ability to extract the best deals.

Chelsea did bring in several names over the summer, most notably Morgan Rogers for £117m, but BlueCo will look at the summer as a highly productive one, even after missing out on Lamine Camara at the deadline.

The Blues return to action this weekend, against defending Premier League champions Arsenal at the Emirates.
