I will NOT do it - 17 y/o Lamine Yamal refuses to pose for new Barcelona contract unless ONE condition is met
Barcelona’s wonderkid Lamine Yamal has reportedly refused to pose for the official club contract photoshoot for his extension until his beloved grandmother, Fatima, is by his side.
The sensational teen, widely hailed as “the best player in the world” by leading pundits, recently signed a new mega-deal that will keep him at the Camp Nou until 2031.
The new contract comes with a jaw-dropping €1 billion (£840 million) buyout clause, the same figure once assigned to Lionel Messi at the height of his powers.
However, despite the historic nature of the agreement, Yamal has insisted the official visuals and promotional rollout be postponed until July, when he turns 18 — purely so his grandmother can be present, as per The Guardian.
According to El País, Fatima, who migrated to Spain from Morocco in 1990, raised Yamal after his parents separated when he was just three.
More than just a guardian, she is the emotional bedrock of his young life.
Lamine Yamal: The boy from Rocafonda who never forgets home
Lamine Yamal’s story is one that straddles footballing genius and raw human grounding.
Despite his meteoric rise on and off the pitch – breaking records, dazzling for Spain, and scoring the Goal of the Tournament against France at Euro 2024 — he remains deeply connected to his roots in Rocafonda, a humble neighbourhood in Mataró.
Yamal famously celebrates goals by forming “304” with his fingers — Rocafonda’s postal code — and even attempted to buy Fatima a new house, which she graciously declined, opting to remain in her modest flat.
Yamal joined Barcelona’s La Masia academy at the age of six and made his first-team debut in 2023.
At just 16, he became Spain’s youngest ever goalscorer and later clinched the Kopa Trophy for the world’s best young player.
His rise has been breathtaking, but it’s his loyalty and emotional intelligence that’s making headlines now.
