He wants to keep growing - Alonso lauds Real Madrid star’s ambition
Xabi Alonso has praised Jude Bellingham ahead of Real Madrid’s Club World Cup clash with Salzburg.
The Englishman was instrumental in Los Blancos’ 3-1 win over Pachuca, whom they beat despite Raul Asencio's seventh-minute sending-off.
Bellingham scored the Madrid giants’ first goal in the 35th minute before goals from Arda Guler and Federico Valverde made sure that Elias Montiel's 80th-minute strike did not alter the result.
The England international’s second season might not have matched the lofty standards of the 2023-24 season; however, that has not prevented praise from his new manager.
What Alonso said
Speaking to the media before Los Blancos face Salzburg, the Spanish boss cited Bellingham’s drive to improve as a key characteristic of the midfielder, stating that the former Borussia Dortmund man will be important for the Club World Cup favourites.
“Jude Bellingham will continue to be key for us. I love what he does in midfield,” said Alonso.
“He’s very ambitious, a player who always wants to improve, to keep growing. We’re eager to continue watching him grow and improve.”

What’s next for Real Madrid?
Real Madrid (four points), in Group H, could still suffer an exit from the Club World Cup if they lose to Salzburg (four) and Al-Hilal (two) beat eliminated Pachuca.
