The 26-year-old recently returned from injury and has slowly been building back up the form that endeared him to the Red Devils fanbase. Ahead of the Manchester Derby on Saturday, Scholes and Butt’s pre-match analysis included criticism of Lisandro, and the former Ajax man made sure to address it.

What Lisandro said

Much was made about Lisandro’s height when he joined the Red Devils — 1.71 metres — as it regards competing with Premier League forwards. While he has since allayed most of those fears, given his combative defensive style, Scholes and Butt still used it as a point of criticism.

Speaking in a podcast, they joked that Man City’s Norwegian striker Erling Haaland will “pick Martinez up and run with him.” Scholes also added that the former Molde man would throw him into the net.

The Albiceleste went on to have a solid game, shutting down Haaland and other Manchester City attackers to help Manchester United win 2-0. After the game, he addressed Scholes’ comments, saying:

“Honestly, he can say whatever he wants. I told him already, if he wants to say something to me, he can come to wherever he wants. To my house, wherever. I don't care,” he said, per Goal.

“And I think for me, I respect the relations when they want to help the club because everyone can talk on the television, but when you see [them] here face to face, no-one says anything in your face.

“So for me, I don't really care what they say. I just put the focus on my performance, the performance of the team and I give everything to this club until my last day.”

Paul Scholes has responded to Lisandro as well, taking to Instagram to post, “Someone’s had a good game; was really happy for you… Tea, no sugar please, Lisandro.”
