Dream Cup: Nigeria's U-16 team suffer humiliation in 7-goal thriller vs Japan
Nigeria’s national under-16 side the Future Eagles had a day to forget in Japan on Friday.
The Future Eagles made it two defeats in two matches following a comprehensive 6-1 loss to host Japan in Fukushima.
Future Eagles roasted in Dream Cup
Nigeria went into the game looking to bounce back to winning ways after a narrow loss in their opener.
The Eagles put up a gallant display but fell to a 1-0 defeat against the Netherlands in their first game in the Dream Cup.
Ahead of their second game, the Haruna Ilerika-coached side was confident of a positive result against the hosts.
However, the game turned out to be a one-sided affair as Japan completely thrashed the Future Eagles.
A Kumashiro-inspired Japan proved just too strong for their counterparts from Nigeria.
Kumashiro scored a brace while Shuto, Hamasaki, Sekiguchi and Shima netted the other goals for the home side.
Nigeria’s consolation goal came courtesy of Alatan Azuka.
The Future Eagles will switch attention to the United States of America, who suffered a 3-0 hammering for the Netherlands in the other group game.
The 2023 Dream Cup is the seventh edition of the competition slated for youngsters aged 16 and under.
