The former Spain international, who spent more time with Messi at Barcelona, winning everything together at club level, believes the Argentine is the GOAT purely based on having the higher level of talent.

In a candid interview on The Late Run Show with host Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson, Piqué left no room for doubt.

"For me it's no doubt, it's Messi," Piqué declared.

"I haven't seen anyone with this level of talent."

"Cristiano was indeed a machine that worked insanely every day. In terms of work ethic, I haven’t seen anyone prepare as he did; he wanted to be the best. But in terms of talent level, I put Messi a little bit ahead."

Both stars will undoubtedly go down as two of the greatest talents in the history of the sport, boasting a wealth of individual and collective honors.

However, Messi's recent international success has shifted the goalposts for many observers.

The 39-year-old belongs to the elite group of active players with a World Cup winner's medal, a trophy he secured while being named the tournament's best player.

Adding to his legacy, Messi led Argentina to a Copa América title in 2021 and successfully defended it in 2024.
