Court reveals what happened before Anthony Joshua's tragic crash

The Sagamu Magistrates’ Court has revealed that the driver transporting heavyweight star Anthony Joshua allegedly lost control of a Lexus SUV while attempting to overtake a moving truck, leading to a devastating crash that killed two of the champion's closest associates.

The emotional case has brought fresh attention to the December road accident in Ogun State that claimed the lives of Latif Ayodele, Joshua's personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength coach.

The trial resumed this week with investigators outlining how they believe the crash unfolded, while Anthony Joshua's driver continues to deny all charges against him.

According to evidence presented in court as reported by BBC Africa correspondent Simi Jolaoso, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode was driving a Lexus SUV carrying Anthony Joshua and his friends to visit the boxer's father in Ogun State when the accident occurred.

Prosecutors alleged that Kayode attempted to overtake a moving truck but lost control of the vehicle before crashing into a stationary lorry as Joshua and his friends were reportedly asleep when the collision happened.

Kayode is facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid driver's licence.

However, the driver has pleaded not guilty to all counts.

During the hearing, Inspector Christopher Ajayi Taiwo of the Ogun State Motor Traffic Division told the court that both vehicles had already been moved by the time he arrived.

However, investigators found several pieces of evidence at the crash site.

Among the items recovered from the Lexus were a logbook, painkillers and an energy drink.

The inspector also testified that spilt soya beans from the stationary lorry's cargo were scattered across the road alongside debris from the collision.
