Fernandes has been out of action since sustaining the injury in a match against Aston Villa before Christmas. His absence has been felt, with United missing their influential midfielder in recent fixtures against Newcastle, Wolves, and Leeds.

The team's difficult run of form continued with a 1-1 draw against Leeds at Elland Road on Sunday. Following the match, Amorim provided an update on Fernandes while addressing questions from TNT Sports about the club's January transfer strategy.
