Leeds vs Man United: Red Devils drop points again as consecutive draws mount pressure on Amorim
Ruben Amorim looked visibly destabilised before the match against Leeds, and his Manchester United side suffered the consequences as they were held to a draw by 16th-place Leeds.
The Red Devils had summer signing Matheus Cunha to thank for the point, as the Brazilian's equaliser cancelled out Brenden Aaronsen's opener for the home side.
Leeds vs Manchester United: How it happened
Leeds and Manchester United renewed their fierce rivalry in a high-tempo Premier League contest that ultimately ended level, despite both sides enjoying periods of momentum.
Leeds started brightly in front of a lively Elland Road crowd, but United struck first only for Matheus Cunha’s superb early volley to be ruled out for offside. Clear chances were scarce in a midfield-heavy battle, although Dominic Calvert-Lewin went close when his header from Anton Stach’s cross struck the post.
United looked sharper before the break, with Lucas Perri producing an outstanding save to deny Leny Yoro from close range, while Cunha and Patrick Dorgu both failed to hit the target. Leeds’ defensive resilience kept them in the game, but their lack of a first-half shot on target frustrated Daniel Farke and the home support.
The pattern continued after the restart until a defensive lapse gifted Leeds the lead. Brenden Aaronson pounced on a loose ball after Ayden Heaven hesitated and calmly finished, extending United’s poor run of conceding away goals.
United responded swiftly, however, as substitute Joshua Zirkzee teed up Cunha, whose effort crept over the line to restore parity.
Late chances fell at both ends, with Cunha hitting the post and Benjamin Šeško firing wide for United, while Joël Piroe missed for Leeds. The draw leaves Leeds eight points clear of relegation, while United missed a chance to move into the top four.
