Brentford unveil Nigeria U-20 superstar Benjamin Fredrick as latest Bee
Nigeria youth international Benjamin Fredrick has completed his sensational move to Premier League Brentford.
Brentford took to their social media accounts to announce the arrival of the talented defender on a season-long loan until the summer of 2024 on Thursday.
“The Nigerian defender joins the young Bees,” Brentford’s post on their X.com account read in parts.
Fredrick to Brentford
Pulse Sports reported earlier that the Bees had won the race for the signature of the highly-rated defender.
The 18-year-old has joined the Brentford B team from Kaduna-based Simoiben FC, owned by Super Eagles star Moses Simon.
Frederick was one of Nigeria’s best performers in Nigeria’s at the 2023 FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
A defensive line led by the stopper inspired the Flying Eagles to the quarterfinal of the FIFA Youth World Cup.
Fredrick proved to be as solid as he is reliable as the Nigeria Under-20 side shocked eventual finalist Italy and host nation Argentina while keeping two clean sheets in the competition.
How Brentford found Benjamin
Speaking on their latest catch, Brentford’s B boss, Neil MacFarlane revealed that the youth international was spotted by their recruitment department.
“Benjamin is a player who has been identified by our recruitment department and he’s a real prospect having impressed for Nigeria in recent tournaments,” macFralane told the club website.
“He’s a very tenacious player who likes to defend on the front foot. He’s somebody we will look to develop through our games programme, and we’ll see how his development progresses over the course of his loan. We look forward to welcoming Benjamin to the club.”
The defender also had loan spells with other Nigerian clubs such as ABS FC and Nasawara United in recent seasons and he now heads to West London to continue his development under the B-team staff, the club added.
