Bitter end to his career — Alonso sympathetic with Modric after PSG humiliation
Xabi Alonso described Real Madrid's 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in Wednesday’s Club World Cup semi-final as a “bitter end” to Luka Modric’s storied tenure with Los Blancos.
PSG dominated with goals from Fabian Ruiz, Ousmane Dembele, and Goncalo Ramos.
Modric, 39, came off the bench, but couldn’t prevent the heavy defeat in his final match for Real Madrid.
The Croatian captain will join AC Milan this summer after the club chose not to renew his contract.
Alonso reflected post-match, saying, “Definitely, it’s a bitter end to Modric’s Real Madrid career. Apart from that, he is a club legend.

"He is a football legend. He is a great man. He will be remembered forever in Madrid.”
Modric’s departure marks the end of an era for the midfielder, whose legacy at the Santiago Bernabeu remains unparalleled.
Meanwhile, PSG advance to the final, where they will face English giants Chelsea, with U.S President Donald Trump in attendance.
