Atalanta REJECT Bayern Munich offer for Ademola Lookman
Atalanta summarily rejected Bayern Munich's offer for Ademola Lookman, as they continue to insist on selling the Nigerian on specific terms.
Lookman and his representatives are racing against time to secure the Nigerian's exit from Bergamo before the transfer window seals shut at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Monday, September 1st.
As Pulse Sports reported, they received a loan bid with an option to buy from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich today. However, according to reports from Italian transfer expert Di Marzio, La Dea immediately rejected the offer.
Atalanta reject another bid
The Athletic broke the news earlier today that the Bundesliga champions had submitted a bid to Atalanta for Lookman. They were looking to pay a sizable amount to sign the Nigerian on loan with an option to buy for an undisclosed amount also revealed to be significant.
However, Atalanta have rejected the approach. The 2023/24 Europa League champions have already rejected two official bids for Lookman this summer, both of them coming from Serie A rivals Inter.
La Dea rebuffed bids worth €40 and €45 million, respectively, with reports suggesting that they were holding out for a €50 million bid. According to Di Marzio, Bayern's bid was rejected because Inter do not want to sell under the conditions presented by Bayern Munich. It remains to be seen if the Germans will return with improved terms, with the window less than 24 hours from closing.
Are Atalanta being fair?
The communication from La Dea’s hierarchy was that the insistence on a €50 million bid was limited to their rivals, of which Inter are one. However, they have now rejected an offer from a foreign club, Bayern.
Their reasons are unclear, and it could range from the timing, with the window close to shutting, to the amount involved or the loan clause in it.
