Atalanta CEO Percassi reveals the behind-the-scenes deal with Lookman, rejecting €20m from PSG with promise of 2025 exit to 'super top club' - but Inter doesn't qualify.

Atalanta CEO Antonio Percassi has shed new light on the ongoing transfer saga surrounding Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman, revealing a secret agreement that shapes the player's future and firmly rejects recent bids from Inter Milan.

Percassi disclosed that the arrangement with Lookman was forged a year ago when Atalanta turned down a €20 million offer from Paris Saint-Germain. The club promised the Nigeria-eligible midfielder that he would be allowed to leave in 2025, but only to a “super top club” outside of Italy.

“The pact with Lookman was made one year ago when we rejected €20 million from PSG,” Percassi explained, according to a post by Fabrizio Romano. “We told him: we’ll let you leave in 2025 for a super top club and not in Italy. Now, the situation with Inter is different... and as always, it’s us deciding.”

This statement highlights Atalanta's control over Lookman’s destiny, contradicting Inter Milan’s ambitions to secure the player this summer.

Despite Inter reportedly raising their offer to around €45 million, the club’s leadership maintains that the deal does not meet their valuation or the predefined conditions set in the earlier pact.

The saga has become public after Lookman accused Atalanta of “blocking a move” and “breaking promises” following the rejection of Inter’s offers, prompting him to submit a formal transfer request.

While the forward has expressed frustration, Percassi’s remarks emphasise that Atalanta retains the final say in the transfer’s terms.

Lookman, 27, has been a key figure for Atalanta since joining in 2022, notably contributing to their historic Europa League triumph. The club's insistence on selling only to a “super top” club abroad shows their ambition and the premium they place on one of Africa’s finest attacking talents.

Ademola Lookman checks in at Atalanta earlier last month but has handed in a transfer request.

As negotiations unfold, the power balance remains with Atalanta, making it clear that any transfer must align with the club’s strategic vision and prior commitments and that Inter Milan, for now, does not qualify as the “super top club” in this equation.

The situation remains fluid, with all eyes on how the next chapter of Lookman’s career will unfold.
