Arteta beats Arsene Wenger to elite Premier League club
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has officially etched his name alongside English football's greatest tacticians after reaching 150 Premier League victories at blistering speed.
The defending 2025/26 Premier League champions began the new campaign in flawless fashion, dismantling newly promoted Coventry City 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium.
The comprehensive opening-day triumph marked Arteta's 150th league win in just his 249th match in charge of the North London club.
Arteta joins elite club
With the victory against Coventry to kick-start their title defence with a win Arteta became the fifth-fastest manager in Premier League history to achieve the feat.
He joins an ultra-exclusive pantheon of modern managerial royalty, slotting in directly behind legendary figures Pep Guardiola, José Mourinho, Jürgen Klopp, and Sir Alex Ferguson.
Guardiola holds the outright record at a staggering 204 matches, followed by Mourinho (231), Klopp (237), and Ferguson (247).
Arsenal begin title defence
Arsenal showed exactly why they are reigning champions, ruthlessly putting Coventry to the sword in the opening 45 minutes.
The Gunners raced to an unassailable 2-0 lead within the first 22 minutes courtesy of clinical strikes from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka.
Captain Martin Ødegaard then sealed the three points shortly after half-time, following up his recent Community Shield heroics with his first top-flight goal of the campaign.
