The Gunners head into the game looking confident after their 3-0 thrashing of Manchester City to win the Community Shield.
With Mikel Arteta’s team aiming to defend their Premier League title for the first time, they secured a massive 3-0 victory against Coventry in their opening game of the season.
As it happened
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta makes two changes to his side from their win over Manchester City in the Community Shield.
Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka are back in the starting line-up, but new signing Bruno Guimarães misses out with an injury, and Noni Madueke drops to the bench.
Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has named five summer signings in the line-up as the club plays their first Premier League game since 2001. Taiwo Awoniyi, who just joined the club, was named on the bench
Arsenal started on the front foot, dominating and creating chances to kickstart their title defence.
The Gunners took an early lead following a defensive error by Milan van Ewijk. After losing possession while attempting to shield the ball out for a throw-in, Van Ewijk was dispossessed by Riccardo Calafiori, who quickly set up Kai Havertz to score.
Maintaining their momentum following the opener, Arsenal quickly doubled their lead.
Capitalising on open space, Declan Rice dispossessed his opponent and shifted play left to Christos Tzolis, whose precise low cross set up Bukayo Saka for an effortless tap-in at the back post.
Entering the second half, Arsenal burst forward, and this time it was the Gunners' captain Martin Ødegaard who finished a cutback from Ben White on the overlap.
Arteta's men controlled the remainder of the game with ease, going on to finish the game 3-0 to start the season on a high.
