Since his transfer from Manchester City in the summer of 2024, Alvarez has been a crucial figure in Atletico's attack, scoring 49 goals and providing 17 assists in 106 appearances.

While reports suggested Atletico were open to a deal with Arsenal, the striker, who is under contract until June 2030, has his sights set firmly on a move to Hansi Flick's Barcelona.

However, the Madrid club's refusal to negotiate has forced the Catalan giants to begin looking at other attacking options.

The frustration among Atletico fans became palpable at the training facility, where banners reading "Julian Out" and signs with his No. 19 crossed out were prominently displayed.

The demonstrations, which included hostile banners, followed by jeers directed at the Argentine during the team's La Liga opener, left his relationship with the fanbase in tatters.

This public backlash came after insulting chants were aimed at the forward during Wednesday's league match against Malaga at the Estadio Metropolitano.

The 26-year-old's standing with the supporters has rapidly declined since he openly expressed his wish to move to Barcelona.

Manager Diego Simeone has tried to quell the rising tension, insisting that Alvarez is still a key part of his plans, even after the player formally submitted a transfer request during the off-season.

If Atletico succumbs to the fans' demand and sells Alvarez, Simeone could make a swift move for Super Eagle star Victor Osimhen.
