'Arsenal will win’ – John Obi Mikel tips Gunners to retain Premier League title

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has backed Arsenal to successfully defend their Premier League title, identifying the club's stability and continuity as their biggest advantage over their rivals.

Mikel believes Arsenal's consistency in terms of their squad, coaching staff and recruitment gives them a major edge heading into the new Premier League season.

Speaking to Flashscore during a trip to Ghana for an episode of his ObiOne Podcast, the former Super Eagles captain argued that Arsenal have built a strong foundation under manager Mikel Arteta, unlike several of their closest competitors who have undergone major changes.

According to Mikel, Arsenal's biggest strength is the continuity they have maintained over the past several seasons.

The former Chelsea star believes Arteta's decision to develop the squad gradually rather than completely overhaul it has placed the Gunners in an excellent position to compete again.

He said, “Arsenal, I think they win because, again, they are the team that is settled. They have had the same team for the past five or six years, the same manager. He has built the team, he has built the winning squad, and now again he has added to that squad.”

The Nigerian believes that continued development could make Arsenal even stronger.

He added, “I think they will get better and better. You can see City now, they struggle. Pep Guardiola has left, a lot of players have left, Rodri has gone.”

Mikel also highlighted managerial changes at other leading clubs.

“Chelsea have a new manager, Liverpool have a new manager, Newcastle have a new manager, Tottenham have a new manager, Manchester City as well, and Manchester United still have a relatively new manager," he added.

According to the former midfielder, Arsenal's ability to maintain continuity while their competitors adapt could prove decisive during a long Premier League campaign.

He said, “When you put all of that into consideration, Arsenal are the team that is steady, stable and settled.”

Mikel believes that stability could ultimately separate Arsenal from the chasing pack.

He added, “I think that is something that is going to give them the advantage this season.”
