Arsenal will never do that — Pundit slams Man City for performance against Fulham
Former Crystal Palace star and current pundit Clinton Morrison has voiced strong concerns over the state of Manchester City’s defence, calling it "a problem" following their shaky 5-4 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Tuesday night.
Despite Pep Guardiola’s side establishing a commanding lead, going up 3-1 at half-time and extending it to 5-1 at one point in the second half, goals from Alex Iwobi and a late brace from Samuel Chukwueze dramatically threatened to derail their lead.
Morrison believes City’s defensive fragility could cost them dearly.
“There’s a problem with Man City defensively. I’ve said it all season that we know they can score goals, no bother with them the way they’re going forward but defensively they have to be better.
"He highlighted a crucial late intervention that salvaged the win but stressed the need for overall improvement:
“Josko Gvardiol just made a clearance and helped his team to three points, and at the end of the season that could be a big three points.
“They need to be better defensively because you’d never see Arsenal be 5-1 up and end like that, so they have to sort that out.”
The statistics underscore Morrison’s point: Manchester City have conceded 16 goals this season, a stark contrast to Arsenal's water-tight tally of just 7 goals conceded.
This defensive solidity at the Emirates Stadium could prove key to Arsenal securing their first league title since 2004, and Manchester City must stop leaking goals if they are to stand any chance of keeping pace in the title race.
