Fulham vs Man City: Chukwueze, Iwobi send Chelle message, but bow to record-breaking Haaland
Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze both starred for Fulham despite their dramatic 5-4 loss to Manchester City.
In a match that saw Manchester City’s Erling Haaland become the fastest player to reach 100 Premier League goals, Iwobi and Chukwueze staked their claim for a place in Eric Chelle’s final 2025 AFCON squad after both being named in the preliminary list.
Fulham vs Man City: How it happened
Manchester City took the leas through Erling Haaland, who became the fastest player to reach 100 Premier League goals, before strikes from Tijjani Reinders and Phil Foden put the Cityzens 3-0 up.
After ex-Arsenal star Emile Smith-Rowe pulled one back for the Cottagers, Foden struck his second of the game before a Sander Berge own goal put Manchester City 5-1 up and seemingly out of sight.
However, the introduction of Samuel Chukwueze turned the game on its head as the Nigerian star came close to sparking a generational comeback.
Chukwueze’s Nigerian compatriot Alex Iwobi pulled a goal back for Fulham before the ex-Villarreal man himself mounted a vendetta against Pep Guardiola’s men.
Chukwueze made it 5-3 in the 72nd minute, scoring his first-ever goal for Fulham with a stunning finish after a Bernardo Silva error, before adding a second soon after with a low drive to make it 5-4.
Despite the nervy finish, Manchester City held on for all three points, keeping them withing touching distance of league leaders Arsenal.
