AFCON 2025 - Super Eagles stars Bassey and Osimhen named in pre-tournament Best XI
The inclusion of Osimhen and Bassey in the lineup was largely anticipated, given both players' current good form.
The Napoli striker is considered one of the most lethal forwards in global football and is central to Nigeria's hopes for the tournament.
Conversely, the Fulham star has proven to be a stalwart in the Cottagers' defence, consistently being a key player for the team.
The recent 2-1 friendly defeat to Egypt saw neither player participate for the Super Eagles.

The team, selected by CBS Sports Golazo, features top talents from across the continent who are expected to be key players when the competition kicks off in Morocco.
South Africa’s Rowen Williams was chosen as the goalkeeper, noted for his consistent and composed performances on the international stage.
The defense combines power and experience, with Nigeria’s Bassey at left-back. He is joined by Evan Ndicka of Ivory Coast, Chancel Mbemba from DR Congo, and Morocco’s dynamic right-back, Achraf Hakimi.
In midfield, the selection includes Senegal's Ismaïla Sarr, influential South African Teboho Mokoena, and Moroccan international Ismael Saibari.
The attack is spearheaded by some of Africa's most formidable forwards. Senegal legend Sadio Mané and Ivory Coast winger Amad Diallo feature alongside Nigeria’s prolific striker, Victor Osimhen.
Michael Lahoud, a former Sierra Leone international and CBS Sports Golazo analyst, highlighted the Fulham defender's adaptability as a key reason for his inclusion.
"The backline is where my picks are going to be pretty stable. Calvin Bassey is an interesting option at left-back," Lahoud commented.
"He can play left-back and has played there at different times. I know Fulham fans will definitely miss him in the Carabao Cup."
