The FIFA annual awards are imminent, and while the bulk of the attention is towards the Best Men's and Women's Footballers of the year, the Puskas, a trophy given to the player with the most impressive goal over the period in review, also draws buzz.

The award, named after legendary Bulgarian striker Ferenc Puskas, unlike the two main awards, looks further than the top European leagues and competitions, and sometimes, like Marcin Oleksy, a forward in Poland's national amputee football team, even physically disadvantaged individuals are eligible for the award.

Whether it be an important World Cup knockout goal like James Rodriguez in 2014 against Uruguay or a mundane friendly in the case of Zlatan vs England, the Puskas award celebrates aesthetics, not purpose.
